City Hall Fellows

Places recent college graduates in fellowship positions in local governments across the United States.

The City Hall Fellows program seeks to engage seniors and recent college graduates with the experience of working in local government, and introduce America's talented future leaders to careers in public service. Fellows will be grouped in cohorts of 10 within each host city and will be placed throughout the local government with high-level local officials (e.g. mayor's office, city council, police department, housing agency, etc.). Fellows will function as full-time staff members in their assigned departments and will work on projects and tasks designated by their host city.

Selection Criteria

Ideal candidates are interested in local government and public service, and are passionate about improving their communities.

Applicants from all majors and academic disciplines will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Fellows are expected to possess the following characteristics:

  • academic achievement
  • written and oral communication skills
  • leadership potential and ability
  • dedication to public service; and
  • an entrepreneurial spirit appropriate for participating in our growing program.

While there is no GPA cut-off, the Fellowship is highly competitive. Additionally, preference is given to applicants who can demonstrate a strong connection to the city for which they are applying.

All fellows are given an entry-level salary commensurate with their host city's cost of living, along with basic health benefits.

The Fellowship offers a full-time, year long position which runs August - July.
